Northwest of Tampa in the suburb of
Lutz, Bobby Weed crafted the Tournament Player’s Club
of Tampa Bay. The TPC of Tampa Bay has some strong ties to
the Senior Tour: Chi Chi Rodriguez provided input into the design
process and the course is the home of the Verizon Classic. Look for
wide open fairways that lead to diabolically undulating greens. Translation
– it’s all about the approach shot at the TPC of Tampa
Bay.
During the 1990s, Fox Hollow did all it could to
bolster the Bay’s semiprivate golf reputation. The design credit
goes to the legendary and late Robert Trent Jones Sr., and the Tampa
Tribune recently rated the course as one of the top three in the area.
Fox Hollow is located about 30 minutes north of Tampa in New Port
Richey. The “Hollow” consists of holes No. 1, 10 and 18
– all visible from the course’s $2 million clubhouse.
